From bambinis to men's teams: The right ball size for every league in handball
No question: The size and weight of the ball must match the players. That's why there are binding specifications for the ball size for different age groups in handball. Different sizes are also prescribed for men's teams and women's teams.
Kempa handballs in size 0 and 00: right for bambinis and minis
The size 00 in handballs is not fixed. Generally, however, these are very light and small balls, perfectly suited for preschool and elementary school children. This allows the handball kids to learn playing techniques with balls that are appropriate for their size. Here everything is still playful and the fun of movement is in the foreground. A regulation is therefore not necessary. Size 0 in handballs is intended for elementary school children. The minis or F-youth consists of children between 6 and 8 years old and plays with balls that weigh under 260g. The ball circumference is adjusted to 46 - 48 cm for small hands.
Kempa handballs in size 1: right for the handball youth
Handballs in size 1 are intended for players in youth teams. Here, gender is differentiated: For female youth, it is players from 8 - 14 years old, corresponding to female C-, D-, and E-youth. The male youth uses the size 1 balls only from 8 - 12 years old (Male youth D and E). The size 1 balls are set to a circumference of 50 - 52 cm and a weight of 290 - 330g.
Kempa handballs in size 2: Here play the women and male handball youth
Balls of size 2 have a circumference of 54 - 56 cm and a weight of 325 - 375g. With this size, women from 14 years up to the adult leagues play. The male youth uses the size 2 ball for the C- and B-teams, corresponding to the age groups of 12 - 16 years.
Handballs in size 3: The ball for men from 16
For men's teams and the male A-youth, balls in size 3 are prescribed. Thus, these handballs are reserved for men from 16 years old. With a circumference of 58 - 60 cm and a weight of 425 - 475g, size 3 handballs are the largest used for training and playing.
